A letter to the community from Paul Marietta

July 16, 2015

Dear Ramsey Community:

For the last three years we have developed an outstanding middle school for the community. It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter to inform you of my departure as principal for Ramsey Middle School. I have accepted a position as an Associate Superintendent within the Minneapolis Public Schools.

We have seen significant successes and transformations over the last three years including implementing a successful 1:1 iPad program, robust programming that focuses on Arts and STEM, along with many other innovative academic practices.  Additionally, we have seen the building continue to transform in meaningful ways. This fall we will be opening up our auditorium, and our science labs will be under construction with target completion at the end of the first semester.

As Ramsey’s principal, I am most proud of the establishment of shared leadership and ownership of the collective work by all staff. This will ensure a smooth transition as a new leader comes on board. Ramsey is set up for success. The Community Partnership Plan has been approved to allow Ramsey continued flexibility in key areas, and Student Based Allocations provides Ramsey with sustainable programming.

In my new role, one of my primary responsibilities will be a supervisor of principals. Although I am not directly overseeing Ramsey, I will continue to be available to consult with Associate Superintendent Jackie Hanson and the new Ramsey principal

In order to make the transition smooth and expeditious, Ms. Hanson will be developing a leadership profile (one from the staff is already created) and selecting the principal within the next two weeks. You can contribute to this survey in qualities you will be seeking: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8BKC62N. It will be a very competitive position and we will be able to select from great candidates.

It has been an honor and a privilege serving you and your children.
