Content Literacy Class:

  • Students get reading extension in literacy through the lens of the topic of choice in either ELA, Social Studies, or the Science Content with a focus on AVID reading strategies
  • Students will get the chance to experience all content literacy classes throughout the year
  • All content literacy classes will focus on the theme of Human Rights for Quarter 1. Students will practice and apply Literacy strategies while learning about and reading many texts related to Human Rights.
  • Quarter 2-4 in ELA is a focused on Visual Literacy. Students will study the importance of how visuals, artwork, and graphics can tell a story.
  • Learning Targets for Content Literacy Courses:

1.    Cite specific textual evidence to support analysis of texts. 34%

2.    Determine the central ideas, information, or conclusions in a text, and provide an accurate summary of the text distinct from prior knowledge or opinions. 33%

3.    Identify aspects of a text that reveal an author's point of view or purpose. 33%

4.    Work Habits 0%
