6th Grade Physical Education Syllabus

Mandy Littlefield
6th Grade Physical Education

Grading-Students will be graded each day based on 4 daily points.
1. Materials:
Students are expected to wear tennis shoes and loose fitting clothes (ie. Sweat pants, tee-shirts, sweat shirts, etc.) each day of physical education class. Please no jeans or short skirts. When choosing athletic shoes, please be sure to invest in shoes that are functional for all activities and will stay on during activity for the safety of all participants. Students need to be prepared for all weather conditions. We spend as much time outdoors as possible.

2. Participation and Assignments:
Students are expected to participate in all activities. Doctor notes and/or parent notes are required for students not participating for any reason and must be given to the nurse prior to class starting. Physical education is a course that is 90% graded on the activity and 10% on paper tests.

3. Attitude:
Students are expected to treat the teacher and other students with respect and demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times. Choosing not to do so will result in loss of points.

4.  Attendance:
Students are expected to be on time and in the assigned location when class begins. Students need to have a planner in order to get a pass. This class will follow the district attendance policy. If a class is missed in physical education there will be a make up form the student can use to get their points back.

Physical Education units will be the same for all students in 6th grade.  We will be focusing on fitness through team sports such as;

Diamond Games

Track and Field

Fitness testing is done three times a year and is recorded. The expectation is that there is growth from the first test to the last test. The mid-year test is used to evaluate what the students needs to work on and what the teacher may need to do more of to help them improve their spring score. I will always let them know the week before testing.

Exercise Ideas

Here are a few workout videos you can use to add to your exercise assignments.  You are required to do 30 minutes of exercise every day we are out of physical education class. Some are less than that 30 minutes but you can do a few different ones. You may also, go for a run, ride your bike, take the dog for a nice brisk walk.

Let’s stay active!!
