More about afterschool
Extended Learning (ExL) Courses are focused on academic support. They are taught by licensed teachers and are free to eligible students. Most ExL classes are year-round (Oct-May 11). If you have questions about this, contact our Academic Lead, Ms. Novak at heather.novak@mpls.k12.mn.us
Community Education Enrichment Courses are available to all students. Classes are offered on a sliding scale. Families are asked to choose the price that works for them or select the no-cost option. Some classes will have a supply fee to cover the cost of consumable materials.
In order to ensure that our high-quality enrichment classes are accessible to all families, Minneapolis Community Education is now offering fees on a sliding scale. We're moving to a sliding scale model for program fees so our afterschool programs can be financially sustainable and more equitable. The different prices reflect the average cost of offering a class as well as discounted options and options that help us cover our administrative costs. Fees cover instructor pay, class supplies, program materials, marketing and scholarships. We have always offered partial and full scholarships upon request. By more clearly articulating our lower cost options, we have removed the barrier that some may have felt in making these requests. When families participate as they are able, at all levels of our sliding scale, the whole program becomes self-sustaining.
TRANSPORTATION is available upon request to students who live in the Justice Page busing area. It can take up to three (3) weeks for a student to be added to the after school bus route. In the meantime, we will do our best to issue temporary passes for students to ride. Please request transportation when you register.
REGISTRATION - please visit mplscommunityed.com to register. Students should not attend after school on the same day they register. We require at least one (1) business day to process all registrations.
We are hiring after-school and summer teachers. We are looking for people who want to share their passion or hobby with young people.
