Conferences 2019-2020

There will be two types of conferences this year to participate in with your student.
** Language support will be provided for conferences.

Fall Drop-In Conferences
Dates: 10/15/2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and 10/16/2019 from 9:00 Am to 12:15 PM

** 4:30 pm: State of the Schools presentation in the Auditorium

The purpose of drop-in conferences is to meet with teachers for about 5 minutes, match a face to a name, and get a quick update about your student.

Common questions to ask the teacher:

  • How is my student getting along with his/her peers?
  • How is his/her engagement in class activities?
  • How can I support you from home?
  • How is my student keeping up with classwork?

Prior to the conferences:

  • Review parent portal
  • Check for missing assignments and assessments
  • Check current grade in each class

It is still best to have your student and family member together for Drop-In conferences. If you have a larger concern please work to make a longer appointment with the teacher.

Fall Goal-Setting Conferences
Date: 9/25/2019 from 1:30 PM to 8:00 PM

The purpose of goal-setting conferences is to help adolescents take more ownership of their education one conference at a time. Conferences focus on a goal the student will work on throughout the year. Students are expected to lead these conferences with their family and Crew leader.

Goal-Setting Conferences:

  • Encourage students to take ownership of their own education
  • Highlight family and Crew leaders as advocates and teammates to support students
  • Break down large goals into more manageable steps

In Crew, describe strengths and weaknesses regarding behavior, social skills, and academics.

In Crew, analyze grades and how they were realized.

At home/on own, think about what should be accomplished this year.

Contact all Crew members to set up time (via signup sheet, email, or phone).

Lead Crew to help students describe strengths and analyze grades.

Organize any necessary paperwork for conference.

Sign up for a 10-minute conference.

Discuss your student's strengths and weaknesses regarding social skills, behavior, and academics.

For 10 minutes, discuss goals (grades and strengths that lead to them) and an action plan to realize those goals. Specifically, what will the student, family and Crew leader do.

If student requests, guide student through the conference.

Help make decisions as a team concerning how to best support the student and commit to action if needed.

Give suggestions to the student for how to improve their goal or action plan.

Help make decisions as a team concerning how to best support the student and commit to action if needed.

Work on those goals daily and assess progress throughout the year.

Work with team (family & teacher) on new goals as needed.

Check in with student on goals and change them as needed.

Communicate with colleagues and families as needed to help with goals.

Check in with student on goals and change them as needed.

Problem-Solving Conferences
