Future City at JPMS

Future City is a worldwide engineering competition, for students in grades 6-8, centered around engineering and city planning. Student teams compose a 1500 word research essay around the year's theme, construct a 3D scale model from recycled materials with a total cost of under $100, prepare and perform a 5-7 minute presentation with a Q and A to follow for competition, using the model as a visual aid. Essentially, it is a semester long project that not only touches on every element of STEAM as well as every core subject, but also on larger ideas such as critical thinking, project management, teamwork, and conflict resolution.
Justice Page Middle School has participated in Future City since the 2015-2016 school year (the first year as Ramsey Middle School). In that time, we have brought home a total of 40 trophies, made the Top 5 Finals Round at Minnesota Regionals 6 of those 7 years, and in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022, we won the regional competition and represented the State of Minnesota at Future City International Finals in Washington D.C. The international competition also features teams from across Canada and China.
Future City is part of the Engineering the Future elective and open to JPMS students in grades 7th and 8th.
