Course Description

What Is class about?

The goal of this course is to prepare students for meaningful and successful participation in mainstream classes by improving their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. It focuses on continued academic language development. I work in collaboration with Social Studies, Science, Language Arts and Math teachers.

WIDA Standard 1:   Social and Instructional Language

Course Description

This year our focus wil be:  

Academic Vocabulary Development where the students will learn the strategies for expanding their vocabulary.

Invitational Grammar where the students will learn grammar in context.

Reading Fluency, Accuracy,and Comprehension by reading from a variety of sources, such as magazines, newspapers, books and website

Writing Skills, such as summarizing, paraphrasing, quoting and composition.

Language Functions, such as compare and contrast, cause and effect, persuasion, asking questions, summarizing, sequencing, agreeing/disagreeing.
