My name is Grace Díaz and I'm excited to be your teacher this year.
I teach 7th grade U.S. Studies, an exciting, rigorous course focusing on the relevance of U.S. history connected to our current day. My teaching philosophy is that students should be at the forefront of their learning, constructing their knowledge through relevant, active learning strategies. Everything in this course is designed to not only teach students history, but also strengthen their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. One of the primary ways we will learn this year is through the lens of various texts, from nonfiction to novels to memoirs. See the syllabus for details.
I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Family Social Science and completed my Teaching License 5-12 Social Studies through Bethel University Graduate program. I also have a Reading License from Concordia University and recently completed my Masters in Curriculum Instruction.
Prior to my 5 years at Justice Page Middle School, I taught 8th grade Global Studies for a year at Nellie Stone Johnson in North Minneapolis, and 7th grade Social Studies for two years in Columbia Heights.
I love traveling especially during the cold Minnesota winters to warmer locations. Some of my pastimes include local Minneapolis coffee shops, thrifting, biking to the lakes, playing tennis, staying on top of my favorite TV shows, and most of all, spending time with my family and friends!
