Please Note:  A number of Food Shelves may be offering Holiday food or possibly gift programs for their participants. If you are registered with a particular Food Shelf or are otherwise getting food from a Food Shelf, please check with the food shelf staff directly.

Resources Open to Minneapolis families

MEALS ON WHEELS THANKSGIVING MEAL: Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities is partnering with Meals on Wheels to offer Thanksgiving Dinners to families in need this holiday season. The meal is precooked and will include all of the components of a Thanksgiving meal, including turkey, dressing, potatoes, peas, corn, cranberries, rolls, pumpkin pie and milk. (Recipients will need to warm up the meal.) Deliveries will be made between 8:30-11 AM on Thursday, November 28. A family member must be home to accept the delivery. This service is available to all who need it – not just seniors.

SALVATION ARMY TOY SHOP: For children up to age 14, living in Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, Sherburne, Washington, and Wright counties. Registration for the 2019 Twin Cities Toy Shop begins Wednesday, November 6 and ends Saturday, December 1. You may register to participate in our Toy Shop by filling out our registration form. Please note that forms are provided in EnglishSpanish and Hmong.

Our Twin Cities Toy Shop hotline (651-746-3595) will be open during weekday business hours for registration and to answer questions.  All who register before December 1 will receive an assigned location for toy pick up, based on their address. Distributions will be held December 18-23.If you miss registration but still need assistance, call United Way 2-1-1 to see what help may be available in your area.

You cannot be registered for any other toy program, such as Toys for Tots. 

Registration may also be done on line at http://www.SalvationArmyNorth.org/toyshop for those with an email address. When you complete the form, your information will be given to an agency that can serve you.  They will be responsible for instructing you on how to pick up toys. 

The Salvation Army may allow homeless families to register if they have verification of a zip code, such as a letter from the location where they are staying or a letter from a shelter. Check for that information at (651)746-3595.

Toys are distributed through participating no profit organizations. The list of agencies will be available November 16. Or call United Way at 2-1-1 or 651-291-0211, to learn which programs have toys for children. A child may only be registered through one charitable organization. Multiple registrations by different family members, at different locations, are not allowed. Only toy requests by family members with custodial responsibility are normally approved. Other requests are considered on a case by case basis. The age limit is 16 years old.

UNITED WAY 2-1-1: United Way receives information from organizations that are providing holiday food, toys or gifts. Call 2-1-1 or 651-291-0211. They will search for programs within your zip code.

Sometimes offers a special Holiday package. No registration required. Attend a Fare for All site. Payment includes: cash, credit/debit card, or EBT.

CHRISTMAS WITH DIGNITY HOSPITALITY HOUSE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: Offers discounted toys for families who quality. Preregistration required: Bring proof of address with a photo ID or utility bill. Registrations includes children’s original birth certificate (no photocopies). 612.524.5824
