Item Pickup/Return

Families are invited to pick up and return materials to Justice Page Middle School on June 3 through June 5.

What to Return
School-owned items should be returned to JPS at the same time. Items to return include:

  • Musical instruments
  • Text books
  • Library books — overdue notices were emailed to students this week
  • ELA/Social Studies books
  • Devices if your student is an 8th grader or is leaving the district

What to Pick Up
Items for pickup will be gathered for each student. Items to pick up include:

  • Any belongings that students left in lockers
  • Yearbooks
  • 8th grade certificates and window signs
  • Medications left in the health office. If you have not been contacted by the health office or have questions about medications, please call Anne Leo LSN at  612-460-1848 or Janet Copeland HSA at 612-440-8796.

Pickup/Return Process
Under no circumstance will families or students be allowed in the building. To ensure everyone stays safe during this process, families will need to stay in their vehicle and staff will place bags in the trunk. Before you arrive, you should:

  • Make sure you have room in your trunk
  • Have a sign in the window of your car with your student’s first and last name and crew teacher’s last name
  • Have any materials to return ready in a bag labeled “RETURN”. A staff member will grab the bag from you through the window or trunk of your car and put it in the return bins.

Families should drive eastbound on 49th Street (towards Nicollet Ave.) to the student drop-off/pick-up area. Please be aware that other families will be picking up belongings at the same time and you should expect some wait time as vehicles move through the line during this process.

When staff approach your vehicle, hold up the sign in your window and open your trunk or back door (for vans) from your vehicle. Staff will stay a safe distance away, respecting social distancing guidelines.

If a student is an 8th grader or leaving the district, we will be collecting devices on your designated day.

Students who are participating in summer programs, summer school, or returning to MPS in the fall are encouraged to keep their device over the summer. Please visit MPS’ Summer Session website for accelerated and enrichment learning opportunities, as well as credit recovery.

Healthy Communication

On Thursday, May 28 at 7:00 PM, the PTA is hosting an online meeting to discuss healthy communication. Linda Madson, a parent educator and former JPS parent, will present on the topic Covid Communication: how we relate as a family during quarantine. Reserve a free ticket on Eventbrite to help us track attendance.

MPS Junior Iron Chef Competition

At-Home Edition
Calling all junior chefs! Can you cook up the winning recipe? MPS Culinary & Wellness Services is inviting all children 18 years or younger to get creative in the kitchen and develop recipes inspired by ingredients in MPS food boxes. Submit your written recipe and a photo/video of the finished dish by June 1. Please help spread the word, and encourage all children and families to participate!

MPS continues to provide free food for all children, 18 and under, during COVID-19 school closure. All families are welcome to participate in this program. Weekly food boxes are available for pick-up Monday-Friday from 10-2. For more information on this program, as well as a listing of local food shelves, please see the MPS Food and Family Resources page.

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, all food box pick-up sites will be CLOSED on Monday, May 25. Please plan to pick up your weekly food box on an alternate day.

Yearbook Distribution

Yearbooks are being printed and will be distributed to students during the last week of school. We do have a limited number of extra copies, but for the safety of our staff and our families, we are unable to accept cash payments. Monday, May 25 is the last possible day to order a yearbook online, and pay with credit card, debit card, or PayPal. If you’re not sure if you ordered a yearbook, email JPMS Communications ( to confirm.

Course Registration for 2020-2021

Course registration for current JPS 6th and 7th grade students began May 4, and most students have already completed their request. Any current 6th or 7th grade student who has not yet submitted a course request for next year should submit it today. Students who do not request courses will get last choice and will be assigned to classes based on what remains open. Materials and links are available on the Course Offerings 2020-2021. Students must be logged in to their MPS accounts in order to submit requests.

Registration for current 5th grade students began last week. Incoming students should have received a letter via US mail late last week. Registration materials and information are available on the Course Offerings 2020-2021 page.

Hennepin County Library Remote Services

The library has staff available to answer questions, connect you to online resources, or recommend your next read. Library services are available Monday through Thursday, from 9 AM to 9 PM; Fridays and Saturdays from 9 AM to 5 PM; and Sundays from 12 noon to 5 PM. Staff Highlight: Kelly Marr

Ms. Marr is an outstanding 6th grade English teacher. She joined JPS in 2012!

A few things you may not know about Ms. Marr:

  • She loves to draw and paint.
  • She likes to spend sunny afternoons playing croquet with her family.
  • She often enjoys narrating what’s going on in a show-tunes, sing-songy voice.
  • Her dog’s name is Scout and her cat’s name is Frida. They are named after a favorite book character and a famous artist (and are the names she wanted to name her kids, but her husband wouldn’t let her)!

Ms. Marr says her favorite things about her job are laughing with her students, being surprised by their insight, and learning something from them every day.
